(DBA Adirondack Railroad)
Serving communities between Utica and Tupper Lake, New York, the Adirondack Railroad plays an important role in supporting tourism and economic activity, particularly in Utica, Old Forge, and Tupper Lake.
The Challenge
The Adirondack Railroad owns four Whiting 35-Ton MA Portable Electric Jacks – essential equipment used to safely lift and maintain railcars. After several years of service, leadership wanted to proactively protect these valuable assets and ensure their continued reliability, safety, and performance.
As a preservation-focused organization operating with lean resources, it was critical to partner with a service provider that could deliver expert-level inspection and support – while also providing personalized attention and clear guidance for long-term maintenance planning.
The Solution
Whiting Services conducted a comprehensive Rail Health Inspection (RHIP) on all four 35-Ton MA Portable Electric Jacks. The inspection included:
- A detailed evaluation of mechanical and electrical components
- Verification of operational integrity and safety systems
- Identification of wear, adjustment needs, or preventative maintenance items
- A clear, documented report to support asset planning and budgeting
The result was a thorough understanding of the equipment’s condition and a roadmap to maintain peak performance moving forward.
Just as important as the technical expertise was the level of service delivered throughout the process.
The Results
With confidence in the condition and safety of their lifting equipment, the Adirondack Railroad can continue its mission of delivering safe, reliable rail experiences – while protecting its capital investment for years to come.
“We have owned a set of Whiting Jacks for a number of years and wanted the best, guaranteed service to maintain these assets and ensure their reliability into the future. We are sincerely thankful to Whiting Services for helping us maintain our equipment. Although we are a smaller customer, we truly appreciate being treated with the same level of attention and care as a large organization. We look forward to working with Whiting in the present and the future.”
